Your Comments about Request Tracker from Best Practical Quote | Reply

Hi there,

I just wanted some comments about Request Tracker (by best practical), given that we intend to introduce it into our department. Currently my concerns with this system are:

* Usability- might be an issue for novice users, (essentially other non-it departments will be using this system),

* Features- it doesn't have too many features relatively speaking, e.g. the reporting section is a little thin (no charts or graphs) and ..., which in tern might affect its longevity,

* Its Maintainability, whilst it's more flexible with the perl scripting engine (coding in perl would not be a problem), I don't believe this notion scales well. I'd prefer a system that allows for effortless maintenance.

I am well aware that it depends on what you want from the system i.e. your requirements. Also I'm not entirely sure if I'm being too critical, but I believe that other applications address these issues better. Apart from the above issues, I think at the end of the day the argument is about INITIAL COST VS FUTURE MAINTENANCE?

Interested in hearing some comments.

Regards,

Dom.
