Letter "E" Rings When Hit Quote | Reply

Using "Majic Solutions Help" version 4.03. Whenever the letter 'e' is hit, be it upper case letter E or lower case letter e, get a ding.

It is only the letter 'e'. Have tried to repro this on every character on his keyboard and it only occurs with the letter 'e'. It also happens only with Windows 2000. Have tried this on Win95, Win98, and WinNT and could not reproduce it.

No other app has any problems and W2k runs great otherwise.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I have had the same experience. I am the only one testing Windows2000 in our environment and the 'e' key sounds off every time I hit it when editing a ticket. If you come across a fix for this, PLEASE let me know! Send me your email address if you want me to do the same. Thanks.

Issue:
There are known incompatibilities running the 16-bit SupportMagic 4.5 client on the Windows 2000 Professional workstations

Details:
SupportMagic 4.5 client is not supported on Windows 2000 Professional client. There are issues with the TCPIP, ODBC and Winsock used by Win2k that cause problems with the functionality of the client. It will install, however some of the known problems include :
- No update to the meta data when validated fields are updated by a Win2K client
- Corruption of the ODBC DSN every time the System Admin tools are run on a Win2K client
- If a sound card is installed in the Win2K workstation there will be a Ding sound every time the letter "e" is pressed on the keyboard.

Use of Windows 2000 Professional clients may cause corruption of the SMDB database. This risk can be minimized by regular daily backups, however corruption can occur and the application still appear to function for days making it necessary to restore from a backup and have to re-enter the data for the period of time between when the corruption occurred and when it impacted the functionality of the application.

In addition none of the server components can be installed on Windows 2000 Server. (ie SQL 6.5 will not install at all)

Workarounds:
The three alternatives are:

1) Use NT 4.0 workstation client for all SupportMagic client functions.

2) Upgrade to Magic Help Desk Enterprise Edition 6.03 (If purchasing functionality is required wait until release of 6.10 which will include the Purchasing module. ETA is late Q4-2000)

3) Upgrade to the SupportMagic 4.5 client and Windows 2000 Professional, disable the soundcard, and do all Database/System Admin functions from a NT4 workstation client.
